Gone for good? - A little post-mortem for my first proper video game
I meant to post something like this a long time ago, but various things got in the way. Here goes.
I had meant to return to this game in some form or other to expand on it at some point, despite what I originally posted. But my hard drive had other ideas.
All my data got wiped from the drive about half a year ago, give or take. A lot of random code and bits and bobs were lost, most of my other work was on google or a git forge. This wasn’t.
All my code for this game is basically gone. I could technically decompile the game, but frankly for what the game is/was, I was not entirely sure that its was worth it. The unity fiasco didn’t help either, but I had mostly jumped ship to godot long before that for various reasons already.
Seeing as the assets for this game are free and on itch.io itself anyways, maybe I’ll revisit this game again someday. Remake it in godot and add on to it then. But I’ve kind of moved on. I’m working on another game (in 3d!) and I’m really only writing this post for closure. Give my game a little send off.
The moral of the story is keep backups. Always keep a backup if you ever want to go back to something.
